We post it all the time, because we love to talk about it, we are a TEAL organization. This means that we purposefully run a business against the grain- we run from the bottom-up rather than the top-down.
Everyone has a voice!
If you are interested to learn more, you can read the book (more info in our book suggestion) and discover all that Frederic Laloux has to say about this new approach to business.
It is essential to create core values when starting your own business. When I was writing the core values for Kaizen-Life, I knew that I needed values that would resonate with and attract the right talent. With that in mind, our core values became: Own It, Be Adaptable, Be Trustworthy, and Have Fun! If you know me, these core values are not at all surprising.
I thought I knew what adaptability for a team looked like, but then I adopted a baby one year after my business experienced a growth-spurt. That completely changed my life (in very obvious ways), but it also changed my business perspective.
It has shown me that adaptability is crucial for a team of parents, small business owners, and great minds (all people I have attracted to join my team). Life happens and it’s not always according to my agenda! When you have a team that is adaptable and can roll with the punches of life, you get an operation running like a well-oiled machine. We all know what’s expected of us, and we are willing to help each other when life throws a curve ball!
At the moment, I have a team consisting of four mothers. We have a lot of team meetings with snack breaks and cartoons blasting at full volume. I wouldn’t have it any other way!
From establishing the core values for Kaizen-Life to where we are today, our core values never waivered, even through so much personal and professional growth. Back then, I had no idea of the progress that lied ahead, and even now our team continues to evolve, but
it’s truly a wonderful thing to work with talented people that are willing to learn and adapt with me!
